I Wanted to Love You, but We're Meant to Be 'Just Friends'

By: Gem Gemini

There's no doubt in my mind that if we'd met each other at a different point in life, we'd be living our happily ever after - but that wasn’t in the cards for us.

Still, every time something good happens, I have to stop myself from calling you.

Whenever my heart is aching, you're the first person I want to talk to about it.

Because you always knew how to make me smile, even when the weight of the world was crashing down on me.

You knew exactly what I needed, usually before I did. You just got me.

You spoke the words that my heart longed to hear more than anything.

You constantly made sure that I felt important, useful, and desired.

You loved me on my worst days as well as my best.

But you were never mine to love. Instead, you were the friend I needed, brought into my life to remind me that unconditional love still exists.

We tried to walk away from each other, but that only left us both in anguish. Living without you hurt far more than just being friends...

So we surrendered and rekindled our friendship, knowing that it would never be anything more. Some lines must never be crossed.

I'll never try to be anything more than your friend because I know that's the role I'm meant to play in your life. But despite that, you'll always hold a piece of my heart because you helped to heal it.

Thank you for showing me that instead of settling for less, I need to strive for a love that is all-encompassing and earth-shattering. Thank you for being you and for letting me be me.
